WOOD A FANT FLAG

History
Broadfoot’s SC Troop Roster lists W. A. Fant and Woodward A. Fant being the same person. Fant first served as private in Company C, 4th SCV Infantry then upon its reorganization, he moved into Company C, Palmetto Sharp Shooters. An account in museum records states, “This flag was given to [Fant] during the evacuation of Richmond.”  Note: An unidentified 1st National with SC association through the man who brought it home, Private Fant.

Description/Condition
This flag is an eleven star Stars and Bars pattern made of silk and measures 24” X 45” and is folded in the frame.  It has a ¾” gold fringe around three sides.  The silk is fracturing in the blue canton.   There is fading of the blue, and some brown staining on the canton near the fringe and just above the center star.  Small brown stains are scattered on the white center stripe of the flag.
